Frequently Asked Questions
Are all services at Veridian Wellness Clinics covered by BC MSP, or are there fees for some services not insured by BC MSP?
Appointments with our psychiatrists are covered by BC MSP and billed directly to the provincial health plan, as long as you have active coverage and attend your appointments. If you have health insurance from another Canadian province or territory (except Quebec), it will also cover appointments with our psychiatrists at Veridian Wellness Clinics.
However, BC MSP doesn’t cover all mental health services. Fees apply for services not insured by BC MSP, including psychologist appointments, rTMS for depression, or missed or late-cancelled appointments. If your extended health benefits or Health Spending Account covers these services, you may be eligible for reimbursement. We’re happy to provide receipts so you can submit a claim—just check your plan for details.
For more information, please visit our Fees and Policies page.
What is Veridian Wellness Clinics’ policy for missed appointments and late cancellations?
At Veridian Wellness Clinics, we require at least 48 business hours’ notice (excluding weekends and statutory holidays) for appointment cancellations or changes. You can do this by calling us at 778-366-2661 or emailing the clinic. If you were referred to us, you would have received email communications from our team and can use that to reach us.
Missed appointments and late cancellations are subject to a fee, as BC MSP does not cover these costs. This policy applies to all appointments at Veridian Wellness Clinics. If you arrive late, miss your appointment, or cancel without sufficient notice, you will be charged your clinician’s respective fee.
Before booking your first appointment, you’ll be asked to review and agree to our patient care consent form, which includes our missed appointment and late cancellation policy. We kindly ask that you proceed with signing the patient care consent form and booking an appointment only if you are comfortable with this policy and are able to pay the applicable missed appointment/late cancellation fees should they arise.
For details on cancellation fees, please refer to our Fees and Policies page.
I'm struggling and not sure what kind of help I need. Where do I start?
We understand that taking the first step toward mental wellness can feel overwhelming. Many people recognize they’re struggling but aren’t sure where to start. Others have explored different treatment options but have yet to find the relief they need.
That’s why Veridian Wellness Clinics follows a three-step approach: Clarity, Direction, and Relief. A mental health assessment with our psychiatrists and/or psychologists is the first step in understanding your challenges and finding the right treatment options.
For a BC MSP covered psychiatric appointment, ask your family doctor or a walk-in physician for a referral to Veridian Wellness Clinics, Click Here. Current wait time for first appointment is about 4 – 6 months.
Alternatively, if you’re ready to get started much sooner, call us at 778-366-2661 to request a private self-paid comprehensive psychological assessment by the psychologist, and receive the appropriate evaluation and treatment recommendations.
We’re here to support you in taking the next step toward feeling better.
Should I see a psychiatrist or a psychologist?
Psychiatrists and psychologists are both highly trained mental health professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions, but their roles differ. Here’s a quick guide to help you decide which professional may be right for you:
Psychologists:
- Assessments: Conduct psychological evaluations, often involving standardized tests in assessment (ex. test for depression, anxiety, personality, ADHD, etc.)
- Treatment Focus: Provide talk and skills-related therapy.
- Access: Patients can self-refer or be referred by others.
- Coverage – Not covered by BC MSP but may be reimbursed by private insurance or a Health Spending Account.
Psychiatrists:
- Assessments: Conduct medical & mental health evaluations but do not use standardized psychometric tests.
- Treatment Focus: Non-talk-related treatment plans, including advanced therapies such as rTMS for depression.
- Prescriptions – Psychiatrists can prescribe medications.
- Coverage – Psychiatrist appointments are covered by BC MSP with active coverage. Non-BC MSP services (e.g., rTMS for depression) may be reimbursed through a Health Spending Account.
At Veridian Wellness Clinics, we take a team-based approach to provide you well-rounded care. If you’re unsure which professional best fits your needs, we’re happy to help. Call 778-366-2661 for guidance or to request a 15-minute consultation with our psychologist.
Are services at Veridian Wellness Clinics covered by insurance?
At Veridian Wellness Clinics, some services are covered by insurance, while others require private payment.
- Psychiatry Services – Appointments with our psychiatrists are covered by BC MSP if you have active coverage and attend your appointment. If you hold active insurance from another Canadian province (except Quebec), it may also cover psychiatry services.
- Psychology & Other Services Not Insured by BC MSP – Services such as psychological assessments, therapy (e.g., DBT, ADHD coaching), rTMS for depression, and missed appointment fees are not covered by BC MSP. However, you may be eligible for reimbursement through private extended health benefits or a Health Spending Account (HSA). We provide receipts for insurance claims in case they are covered. If you’re unsure about coverage, we recommend checking with your insurance provider for details on what your plan includes.
If you are insured under BC MSP, you will NOT be billed privately for services that are covered by BC MSP. Private billing applies only to services not insured by BC MSP.
For more details on uninsured services, please refer to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, which states:
“MSP covers most medical fees for services provided by your physician; however, there are some medical services (referred to as uninsured services) that may not be covered by MSP or other insurers. Examples of uninsured services include the completion of certificates and forms, tests required for employment or driving a motor vehicle, and elective cosmetic procedures.” Reference: CPSBC Website
For a full breakdown of fees and policies, please visit our Fees & Policies page. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at 778-366-2661 or ask during your appointment—we’re happy to help!
What can I do if the ADHD assessment process at VWC isn’t the best fit for me?
At VWC, our ADHD assessment process is thorough, rooted in medical principles, and guided by the gold standard for mental health diagnoses, the DSM-5-TR. While our approach has helped many patients clarify their symptoms, receive an accurate diagnosis, and begin effective treatment, we recognize that no single process works for everyone.
Just as not every therapy or treatment option suits every individual, our assessment process may not be the right fit for you. If you feel our approach isn’t right for you, you are welcome to explore other providers. While we cannot specifically recommend alternative assessment providers — since we do not work with them nor provide primary care services — your family doctor or a walk-in clinic physician can assist with referrals if needed.
